The dining hall space can accommodate presentations, dances and receptions as well as the cafeteria used daily for classroom activities. The south facing glass façade provides an abundance of natural daylight into the dining hall. Opening towards the patio, it will allow the school to hold larger functions and student gatherings. Denver School of the Arts
Denver, Colorado
This project includes the renovation and new construction of the 186,000 s.f. home for the Denver Public School’s 900 student magnet School of the Arts. This magnet school provides training in theater, dance, instrumental and voice music, creative writing, visual arts, and video/cinematography as well as the core academic subjects. The former 1960’s era University of Denver performing arts center was creatively renovated and expanded to provide performance and instructional space. The facility includes:
600 seat multi-purpose theater with movable wall that can separate the stage from the auditorium. This allows the stage to serve as a “black box theater” while the auditorium can be simultaneously used for recitals, school assemblies or film screenings.
300 seat recital hall with a renovated stage; can also be used for light opera and modern dance. 125 seat dance theater with retractable seating and performance capability.
Film/video sound stage; informal performance platforms in the student commons and entry courtyard.
Instrumental rehearsal rooms; shared shop facilities for theater production and sculpture; metal workshop and ceramic studio; dance and movement studios
